Singapore Mountaineers heading for another 8,000er in March

Intrepid mountaineers Robert Goh and Edwin Siew have set their sights on another 8,000er — Manaslu, in the Nepal Himalayas. They have invited Antarctica adventurer and climber David C.W. Lim to join them. Base Camp Manager will again be Lulin Reutens, who says this will be her last expedition, although she will continue to support and manage future expeditions from Singapore.

Once again, they ar proud to have Deputy Prime Minister and Ministerfor Defence Teo Chee Hean as their patron.

Training is well underway. The team aims to leave for Nepal in late March.

We are a small team of mountaineers who specialise in climbing without oxygen and with minimum support.

We believe that such cutting-edge climbing will help to raise the standard of mountaineering in Singapore and put our mountaineers up there among the world's best climbers.

CLIMBING WITHOUT OXYGEN is the purest form of mountaineering. Only about one in 10 successful summit attempts on everest was done without oxygen.

In 2001, we initiated the Make It Real Student Mountaineering Programme at the National University of Singapore (NUS).

In 2003-2005 we trained and guided an NUS team of staff, students and alumni to climb Everest with oxygen to mark the university's centennial.

Our education fund to is supporting six children of three of our Sherpa friends to good schools in Kathmandu. We delighted with their brilliant progress.
